Holy Living Requires Understanding
May 7th, 2014
Psalm 119:137-152
Few things in life are “always”. Mom says, “You always leave your dirty clothes on the floor.” A teacher says, “You always come to class late.” A friend says, “You are always so even tempered.” A dad says, “I always run out of money at the end of the month.” A farmer says, “Seems like it always rains on the day I want to harvest the crops.”
Few things in life are really “always”. We use this term so casually that it has, too often, become diluted and meaningless. In Psalm 119:144, lies a wonderful exception. God’s rulings, his orders, his decrees are always just, moral, honorable. No exception. You can count on it.
If lawbreakers always drew swift punishment or innocent women and men always remained free how orderly and safe and enjoyable our society would be. As a citizen of such a country as that, it would be very important to understand the laws in order to live in peace and safety and freedom.
Just so, to understand God’s rules, His statutes, is to enjoy the highest privileges of his Kingdom, to really live.
