Proverbs 22:17-29

The toughest trial of Cynthia’s life was her husband’s suicide. After that catastrophic event, her greatest need was wisdom to navigate even the ordinary tasks of life. Proverbs rose to rank among her favorite books of the Bible.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (3:5-6). These two verses led to her total surrender to God. Lacking in trust and confused by well-meaning offers of advice, Cynthia knew the only One she could truly depend upon was God himself. Only He could provide the desperately needed wisdom and strength. And He did!

In Proverbs 2 and 8, wisdom is personified as a woman. She positions herself on the busiest intersection in the city square. She calls out to passers-by as they walk to work and go about their day, fulfilling their agendas. God’s representative longs to divinely guide and advise, but no one stops to listen.

God, the Creator of the universe, wants to share His wisdom with us. It’s probably a good idea to stop and listen to His perfect advice!
