Playing Savior
April 18th, 2014
Psalm 146:1-10
We can’t bear to see those we love suffer. We do all that we can to make them more comfortable. While it is commendable to come alongside the suffering, there is a fine line between comforting and getting in the way of what God is doing. The hardships we personally encounter are the very times that draw us closer and more dependent upon our Savior. Heaven forbid that we train a needy person that we are the answer to their needs. It might boost our ego for awhile, but we will soon find ourselves trying to fill a bottomless pit!
When Jesus was hanging on the cross, His accusers mocked and shouted, “He saved others . . . but he can’t save himself! . . . Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him” (Matthew 27:42). Do we really believe that He can save us? Do we believe that He can save someone from a desperate situation? Or, do we take over because we’re afraid that if we put our friend in the hands of Jesus, we will look foolish if Jesus doesn’t come through?
Little did Jesus’ accusers know! There is one Savior. His name is Jesus.
