Job 4:12-21

Are you better than God? If you are like me, you immediately think: “Well, of course not! He’s God. I’m only human.” However, when I consider myself closely, I discover my true approach to this question of authority. How many times have I complained about things not going the way I planned? Have I pursued a relationship that I know is not in God’s will for me just because I wanted it so badly? Or, have I refused to reach out to others because it would make me uncomfortable or inconvenienced?

Why do we think we know better than God? When we take control of our lives, we stress and make a mess. After all, what would the wet clay be without the Potter’s skillful hands?

This was part of God’s reply to Job’s questioning and complaining: “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? . . . Tell me, if you understand. Can you raise your voice to the clouds and cover yourself with a flood of water? Do you send the lightning bolts on their way? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?” (Job 38:4, 34-35). He has a plan greater than we could even comprehend. Let Him be in charge. He’s more than able!
