How Jesus Works
August 31st, 2013
Matthew 14:13-21
Sometimes we are so focused on what Jesus does that we fail to notice how He does it. The disciples came to Jesus with the problem, the crowd was growing hungry and there was no food nearby. Jesus says to them unexpectedly, “You give them something to eat.” The disciples can only come up with five small loaves and two fish. “Bring the people to me,” the disciples are called into action again. Jesus gives thanks, breaks the loaves, and “gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.” Afterward the disciples were recruited for the clean-up committee, picking up 12 baskets of leftovers.
Jesus prayed and even performed a miracle, but everything was done through His disciples. They saw the need, they presented their meager resources to Jesus, and He blessed them and gave it back to feed the hungry crowd. Jesus chose to work through His disciples. He still works that way today.
Do you see a need? Bring it to Jesus. Do you have resources? No matter how small, bring them to Jesus.

“Jesus prayed and even performed a miracle, but everything was done through His disciples. ”
Understanding that the physical work was done by His disciples, we can’t forget that it was the Holy Spirit that multiplied the food . . . just as the Holy Spirit feeds us the miracle of the “Bread of Life.”
Likewise, Jesus’ disciples facilitate serving food to the people of today, but it is still the Holy Spirit that actually feeds us. .
