Unflawed Judgment

Psalm 9:1-20

Human justice is a necessary foundation for civil societies; without the rule of law anarchy reigns. Yet we also know human justice is flawed, mistakes are made: the innocent get punished and the guilty go free.

“The Innocence Project,” has utilized DNA testing to re-examine the evidence against people convicted and imprisoned for crimes. Since 1992 their work has resulted in the exoneration of 292 people, 17 of those were at one time sentenced to death.* Human justice is still challenged by God’s words to Israel, “Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly” (Leviticus 19:15).

God is the final arbiter of justice. King David prayed, “Arise, LORD, do not let mortals triumph; let the nations be judged in your presence” (Psalm 9:19). God alone is fully holy, he knows all things, even the thoughts and intentions of our hearts, and nothing is hidden from His gaze. God is the ultimate arbiter of justice.
