Love In Action

Luke 10:25-37
Years ago I came across a little book entitled Love Is Something You Do. The author emphasized that love is more than some feelings or words. Love expresses itself more fully in the actions it undertakes.
The story of the Good Samaritan expresses this same thought. Three of the main characters in the story had some similarities. They each came upon the man attacked by thieves and they each saw him but there the similarities quickly evaporate. The priest and the Levite came, saw, and passed on by. The Samaritan came, saw, took pity, and went to the man. He bandaged up his wounds, put him on his donkey, and took him to an inn. There he took care of him, took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper, and said, “Look after him . . . and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.” He had a stick-to-it love.
May the words of Jesus speak personally to us: “Go and do likewise.”
