A Moving Experience

Revelation 2:1-7
From her seat on the couch, Mary sadly regarded her husband Bob where he sat at the other end. He used to sit beside her, his arm around her shoulder, as they shared deep conversation. However, they’d lapsed into a dull routine and though they sat on the same couch it was at opposite ends. Television or reading had replaced the previous intimacy.
Finally unable to retain her irritation, Mary blurted. “Darling, we never seem to sit next to each other like we used to. What happened?”
Bob regarded her over his newspaper. “I haven’t moved.”
When Paul chided the Ephesian church because they had “forsaken the love [they] had at first”–their love for Christ–then the solution was obvious. Since He hadn’t moved, then they were the ones who should make the first move to restore Him as their “first love.”
We also face the same test when we drift away from God. While there may be many reasons why we have moved, there is only one remedy–a rededication to Him and His Word. And when we make the first move He is waiting to completely restore the relationship.
