Ephesians 4:1-13

Daniel Burnham, an American architect and urban planner of the early 20th century, is credited with saying, “Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men’s blood.” His plans for cities from Washington, D.C., to Chicago, to Baguio City in the Philippines embodied that philosophy.

The apostle Paul certainly advised no small plans for the spiritual development of the believers in Ephesus: “Live a life worthy of [your] calling,” “be completely humble and gentle, be patient, bearing with one another in love,” “keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace.” Christ has gifted his church with faithful workers: apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. They are to equip God’s people for the work of ministry, so that they may “reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Talk about big plans! Can you imagine any higher goal for followers of Jesus Christ?
