Watch The Walk
May 30th, 2013
Galatians 5:13-26
The flight was delayed. I had nothing to do in the airport but sit and wait. I found a seat in a row of chairs facing down a long concourse. I watched as hundreds of people walked by. Airline personal in crisp uniforms and business people in neat dress moved expertly through the crowds. Families with carts piled high with luggage and children in tow headed on vacation. An electric cart would whir through carrying those who needed assistance to meet their flights. Some people appeared confused. They would walk a few feet and study their itinerary or stop to study the monitors showing arrivals and departures.
Suddenly a voice nearby said, “There they are.” A young child’s voice cried, “Grandma! Grandpa!” An elderly couple stopped and dropped their bags, kneeling down to receive their grandchildren into their arms. Soon the smiling and chatting family passed by headed toward the exit.
Our walk reveals a lot about us. When we walk by the Spirit we move ahead with “love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

“Our walk reveals a lot about us”
Occasionally, we recognize someone according to the way they walk. Maybe they have a limp, an unusual gait, or a strange swing of their arms. The same is true regarding mature Christians. They don’t walk the way of the world. They march to the beat of a different drum and rhythm.
God designed our arms and legs to keep our body in balance when we move. When our right leg goes forward, our left arm also moves forward; and when our left leg goes forward our right arm goes forward. Balance is important. If the body does move accordingly, we are subject to falling.

If the body does NOT move accordingly, we are subject to falling.

Maybe God made our bodies whereas they work in correlation with our spiritual lives –the right side coordinating with the separation for the sheep and the left side coordinating with the goats. As our spiritual reach and steps are going forward for God, our flesh’s reach and steps are “left” behind.
Just love the play on words! 🙂

When we walk in the Spirit of Jesus his joy, love and peace will shine through for all the world to see.
