Genesis 2:18-25

Immediately after giving Adam instructions about shunning evil and living the holy life, God notices that Adam was alone, not lonely necessarily but alone. So he determines that he will find a helper for him. As the story develops of Adam and Eve we see an intimate relationship between them, a relationship that mirrors the relationship that God desires to have with us.

God established in the garden his character of holiness and his desire for intimate relationship. The Hebrew word of “knowing” is difficult to explain. It is that pure, true, and shameless intimacy between husband and wife in holy matrimony; it is that call of God to all his children of a deep knowing, intimate relationship. There was God, the Father; God, the Son; and God, the Holy Spirit in intimate fellowship with each other but as a unit they were also alone. As Adam and Eve were in intimate relationship, so God challenges us, and invites us to know the intimacy of fellowship with the Trinity.

“So he determines that he will find a helper for him.”

Praise God that HE is empathic to our needs.

Intimacy with God is, likewise, empathic to God’s desires for us. A close personal intimate relationship with HIM strives to become “one” with Him, acknowledging that HIS desires for us are to walk in Jesus’ footsteps (developing His mindset by a spiritual critique and improvement of ourselves with the assistance of the Holy Spirit).
