Humble Beginnings

Psalm 28:1-9
King David’s words throughout the Psalms are eloquent. Learning a little background reveals David to be a brave warrior. He took on Goliath with a slingshot and a few stones. He defeated many great armies. From the world’s view, David was successful. So why does he give all the credit to God?
It may be because he never lost sight of where he came from. In 1 Samuel 16, we find young David tending sheep for his father when God anoints him to be king of Israel. Even Samuel is surprised at God’s choice. Immediately the Spirit of the Lord comes upon David in a mighty way. David credits God with being his strength and shield because he remembered his humble beginnings.
I remember my beginnings. Before Christ, I was a sinner heading for failure. But when God called me into salvation, he became my strength and shield. Now, like David, I can say, “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.”
