2 Corinthians 13:1-14

Passing or failing a spiritual examination is more serious than passing a physical examination because it can have eternal implications. The Corinthians are well on their way to failing their spiritual examination. “Doctor” Paul doesn’t want a sinful malady to delay their spiritual progress. A little “preventative medicine” is in order. Paul reviews their condition–persistent sin and refusal to accept Christ’s messenger as one who has Christ’s authority and power, despite appearances.

Paul then gives the Corinthians a spiritual self-examination that if they will do it and take the corrective action prescribed they will be able to pass the test when he comes. Paul realizes he must take this test, too. The Corinthians can be confident of spiritual health and of developing spiritual maturity if they genuinely live the gospel Paul teaches. Paul’s prayer is that they will be fully restored.

May we also pass “Doctor” Paul’s spiritual self-examination.
