Psalm 116:1-9

I was cruising at an altitude of 35,000 feet. There was no turbulence, only calm. The clear, blue sky was softly dotted with white fluffy clouds. As I stared out of the window of the jet admiring the beauty, I felt every muscle relax and let go. Sighing, I mused, “No wonder you love to live up here, Lord. I would love to just stay up here with you.”

I believe David had that sort of peace. As he snuggled close to God, reveling in the peace and security he felt after being threatened with death, he fully realized his only safety was in the “shadow of the Almighty” (Ps. 91:1b).

No matter where we are or in what circumstance we find ourselves, God always hears and delivers us. Living in such intimacy with God we find our life’s perspective changed. Our priorities become clear; life comes into balance. In Psalm 73, Asaph was really struggling. To him, the “bad guys” got all the good, and the “good guys” got all the bad. Then it says, when he “entered the sanctuary of God; then [he] understood” (v. 17a).

Let’s join God today in his peaceful sanctuary.
