Luke 1:1-10

“The Bible was just written by men. How do you know it is true?” His question was sincere.

“Do you know people whose word you can rely on?” I asked.

He nodded, “yes.”

“How do you know their word is reliable?”

“Well, I guess it is because I have learned that I can trust them,” he suggested.

It was my turn to nod, “See, I have learned to trust in God’s Word. I have found it to be true.”

He looked me full in the eye and said, “But sometimes even people who are generally reliable can be wrong.”

“Yes, that is the difference between people and God. The Bible says, “[T]he word of our God endures forever” (Isa. 40:8).

“How can I know it is true?” he said, now staring into his coffee cup.

“Well, first you have to read it. Take a short book like Mark or 1 John and read a few verses daily. As you open your Bible pray, ‘Lord, open the truth of your Word to my heart today.’ God will be faithful, He ‘rewards those who earnestly seek him’” (Heb. 11:6).

He nodded again and I said, “Let’s pray.” That day a new believer began to discover that God’s Word is true.

“How do you know it is true?”

Matthew 7:12 tells us to treat others as we want to be treated; and Galatians 5:22-23 explains the fruit of the spirit. Who does not want to be treated with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control?

3 Treating people with bad fruit &/or hiding pain w/drugs, alcohol, sex, job, etc.
4 Treating people the way that you want to be treated (with good fruit) may not
get immediate results; or, it may not ever get any results, but it definitely
makes a statement. People want to be treated this way, but, many times,
they are under a conviction, so they might not like you. However, it is the
Holy Spirit that is convicting them, not you.

The margins are off in that comment. The four columns should read, “Cause, Effect, World’s Way Out, & Jesus’ Way Out.”
