Keep Looking

Matthew 24:29-35
There are seven of us children; four brothers and three sisters. Sometimes our parents would go somewhere and leave us at home. We knew they would return, we just did not know when. We kids would almost always fight among ourselves, get into some kind mischief, and do things that we were not supposed to be doing. Sometimes one of us would be appointed to watch for our parents. Then we could be alerted and have everything all straightened out when our parents arrived back home. Other times we would not be looking for our parents. Would we ever get into trouble! A few rare times we would behave ourselves and all would be well when Mom and Dad got home.
Jesus has gone to heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. One day he will be coming to take us to be with him. This promise is to those that watch, not like immature squabbling children but like mature believers. If we live in readiness for his return all will be well. We will be ready for his sudden appearance with a clear conscience and all will be glorious.

The writer used an excellent illustration with children, especially since we are children of God (Romans 8:16). We are not unlike children, doing things that we shouldn’t, hoping to get away with something.
In reality, it takes time and good parenting for children to mature. Likewise, spiritually, it takes time and the listening to “Our Father” through the Holy Spirit in HIS WORD and through the gift of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name (John 14:26).
Jesus gave us this gift to comfort and teach us as we grow into mature sons and daughters (2 Corinthians 6:18).
We need to “keep looking” to the Holy Spirit to help us with our temptations (whereas we will be ready).
