What Was The Question?
October 15th, 2012
Job 38:1-7
The plot is familiar; adolescent boys wish a popular girl would at least glance at them. Inevitably the moment comes and the boy who bragged about his verbal prowess is frozen speechless.
Job had longed for this moment. In Job 23:3-4 he stated, “If only I knew where to find him; if only I could go to his dwelling! I would state my case before him and fill my mouth with arguments.” When God appears he is the one who basically asks, “Since you know so much, answer my questions.”
When God confronts us we realize our insignificance and ignorance. None of us can brace ourselves and answer God.
Humility and submission are the appropriate responses toward God; even when we believe our trials and times of testing are unjustified. Learning to trust our Lord in the midst of life’s hardship is one of the strong indicators of our faith.
