Titus 2:1-10

Look at almost any disaster and you’ll find that among the first people on the scene to help are people of faith. You will also find Christians ministering daily to the urban and rural poor. Many would have little food, healthcare, or hope if it were not for these compassionate believers.

This is not surprising for Christians from the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition. John Wesley studied theology, and took classes in basic medical studies to minister to the poor and their physical needs. Phineas Bresee felt a call to serve the urban poor, which led him and his associates to found the Church of the Nazarene. William and Catherine Booth began the Salvation Army to minister to the poor of London. Many other leaders in the early Wesleyan-Holiness movement felt a similar call to minister to the poor.

When we set an example of behaving like the God we serve, this cannot fail to impact a world that doesn’t know this God. This is often our most effective answer to those who doubt our God.
