Acts 1:9-12RG AUDIO 051912
World War II raged across the world in 1942. In February Japanese forces tightened their grip around the Philippines. President Franklin Roosevelt ordered General Douglas MacArthur to relocate to Australia. On the night of March 12, 1942, the general and his staff were taken to the island of Mindanao. Later he was picked up by a Navy B-17 and landed in Australia. On March 20 at a small railway township in South Australia, he made his famous speech in which he said, “I came out of Bataan and I shall return.”
True to his word, General MacArthur returned to the Philippines on New Year’s Day, 1945, liberating the people of the islands.
Centuries before MacArthur’s famous speech, the risen Lord Jesus Christ stood on the Mount of Olives speaking to his followers. Suddenly a cloud lifted him out of their sight. Christ’s angels gave hope to the troubled group with his message, “I shall return.”
