Cooperating With God

Philippians 2:12-18RG AUDIO 050412
It was my very first day of classes at Seminary, and I was beginning to have doubts about my ability to meet the rigorous scholastic demands. I looked around the large classroom and noticed that others were feeling the same way too. Our professor, sensing the anxiety of the new students, stood in front of the freshman class and said, “Ladies and gentlemen, you can make it through these next three years if you remember to do two things: Pray as if it all depended upon God, and work as though it all depended upon you.” His wisdom served us well.
Paul, seems to be talking out of both sides of his mouth. In Philippians 12 he says, “work out your salvation with fear and trembling.” Then, he turns around and says, “for it is God who works in you.” Paul was tireless in his efforts to spread the Good News of the gospel, but he understood that the source of his strength came from God alone. A true divine/human cooperation.
