The saints of God will live forever. That’s good news for us. We are all going to die someday. However, when the spirit of a believer has departed the body, it is ushered into the presence of God. The body is dead, but the spirit lives on. When Christ returns to earth in his second coming, the bodies of the dead in Christ will be raised. There is as much hope for our bodies as there is for our souls!
The progression of death and damnation that came upon the human race is as follows: temptation results in sin, sin results in death, and death (for an unbeliever) results in hell. Jesus redeemed us from all that. In him, temptation results in obedience, sin is atoned for on the cross, and death is defeated in resurrection.
In the resurrection: (1) Christ was raised never to die again; (2) repentant sinners come alive to God, and (3) all believers will be raised on the last day. The people of God “will dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (Ps. 23:6).
