The Lord Is Our Refuge
January 2nd, 2012
RG AUDIO 010212Psalm 14:1-7
Even good, godly people find themselves needing a refuge, a shelter in the times of storms. One of the most puzzling realities of the Christian life is why good people suffer. They’ve walked in obedience to God, lived by faith, have done all the right things, and yet the enemy frustrates their plans.
The culture teaches us to be in control. We are consummate consumers ever seeking to be in charge and in need of nothing. This attitude steers us away from depending on God, our Creator and Sustainer, who is truly the Giver of life.
On this Christian journey, we must be diligent to reject the temptation of the enemy that “there is no God” (v. 1). Surely we look to God for special understanding and trust God to keep our hearts turned toward him and not our own way.
Faith sings the song of triumph for the Lord is our Refuge. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Ps. 46:1).
