Just Tired?

Are you ever just tired? Maybe feeling “just tired” never makes your list of dangerous theological conditions, but it should. Nobody is ever really just tired. When you’re just tired, you’re no longer yourself! You say things you wouldn’t normally say, do things you wouldn’t normally do, spending time in ways you’d otherwise avoid. Familiar with all the temptations that present themselves when we are just tired, the early church warned the faithful about this “deadly sin” of sloth. Anyone experiencing the deadness of a dry and weary spirit easily recognizes the wisdom of those ancient warnings. Being just tired can actually kill you if you live there long enough. There’s simply no life worth living under banners announcing, “I don’t care—nothing more can be done.”
Messiah Jesus has issued a new and startling invitation: “Come to me!” Are you tired enough to follow him into something new?
