Pre-Natal Depression

Do you know any home pregnancy tests that provide three possible outcomes: Pregnant, Not-Pregnant, or Pregnant by the Holy Spirit? Neither does Joseph. What Joseph does know is that he’s been thrown into an inconceivable predicament because God took initiative without asking for his permission. With God now strangely at work in the most intimate and personal details of life for Joseph and Mary, the story offers a divine pronouncement rather than a proposal. God is smuggling salvation and holiness into the world, and without really explaining why it’s necessary to do so this way, God’s message to Joseph begins with a familiar, biblical assurance: “Do not be afraid” (v. 20).

Do you suppose Joseph struggled with any Pre-natal Depression? Are you ready to do whatever God deems necessary, or will you insist on sticking only with what seems fair?
