RG AUDIO 1102Joshua 1:10-18
Decisions and promises made in an emotionally charged atmosphere are often regretted and abandoned when passions cool. Solomon warns us to be very careful when making promises to God. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ told us to count the cost before we follow him. The notion of carrying through when we give our word is quite biblical.
How about Israel? Did they keep their promise? Sadly, they did not. Despite their best intentions and likely heartfelt promises, they broke their promises. Over the years Israel turned time and again from God to sin. Over and over God sent scores of prophets and godly leaders to warn and encourage the nation to repentance. Despite plagues and famine and corrective discipline, it was not to be.
Eventually, when his time and purposes were fulfilled, God sent his Son to die for sinners. His plan of salvation would be accomplished. Humans have difficulty keeping their word no matter how sincere their intentions might be. The magnificent truth is that God cannot break his Word (John 3:16). If you are struggling to keep your promises to God, turn to him for strength. You will be able to keep your word in his power.
