Wholly His

RG101511John 17:1-12

When David fought Goliath, he faced him “in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel” (1 Sam. 17:45b). He didn’t come in his own power or authority but in that which belonged to God alone. This enabled David to fight against the giant–and win.

Jesus, our Intercessor, prayed that we who live in a dangerous and fallen world would be protected from evil, enabled to live lives of righteousness and holiness, by that same powerful name.

Jesus’ request was that believers would be one—one in personal integrity, that is, not torn between faith and doubt, between living for God and living for self, but wholly one with Christ.

He also prayed that believers would be one with each another. Jesus asks God to protect the Church because what it does affects the Father’s interests. Jesus wants us to be holy for the sake of his name.
