Inadequate Like Moses
September 6th, 2011
Exodus 3:11-22
When God called Moses to lead the people out of Egypt, he not only felt inadequate–he was inadequate! He simply couldn’t do what God was calling him to do. He wasn’t smart enough, brave enough, or strong enough. Perhaps someone else but not him. If only Charlton Heston were available!
But God didn’t need Moses’ abilities. All God needed from Moses was his availability. If Moses would have had the capability in his own human resources to free the people of Israel from their bondage in Egypt, he would not have needed to depend upon God, would he? And, if he somehow had been successful, he would have been tempted to boast about the great things he had accomplished. But since Moses knew he couldn’t do what God was calling him to do, his only hope was to rely completely on God.
God had the right person all right. When God calls us to do something that seems beyond our comfort zone, it is not our abilities he is really interested in. He just wants us to be available and obedient.
