Lining Up the Margins
June 27th, 2011
Romans 5:1-11
Reading a well-written letter is a treat. The body of the letter is laid out neatly–both margins are perfectly straight. Trying to make my own letter crisp and straight, I add spaces and drop words to the next line only to end up with a time-consuming mess. My wife asks me what I am doing and I tell her that the sides need to line up. She comes in, highlights the text and clicks “justify” and my computer screen flashes the message—“your document has been justified.” You know that the computer doesn’t just tell me it’s justified–it goes into the body of the letter and makes the necessary adjustments to make it right!
Romans chapter 5, verse 1 says, “Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God” (Rom. 5:1a, NLT, emphasis added).
Aren’t you glad that God does not just say that we are right? He knows when our margins are out of whack, and he wants to come into our lives and make the necessary adjustments to make us right!
