What Rules Your Life?
April 25th, 2011
Luke 6:1-11
Rules! Rules! Rules! Everywhere, there are rules. In school, “Be in your assigned seat.” “Have pencil and paper.” “Raise your hand if you want to speak.” The same is true at work or when traveling, “Save your files.” “Have the report finished this way by Tuesday.” “Drive 35 mph here, 55 mph there.”
Some rules are logical; other rules cause us to wonder. There may be a place for the letter of the law, but there is a broader place for the spirit of the law. The Pharisees’ motives were impure; thus, their reasoning was illogical. Second Corinthians 3:17 declares, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” God realizes we must care for our physical needs, and he wants us to love and do good for others no matter what day it is. What he desires is our complete love and heart dedication. In 2 John 6, we read, “As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.”
