New Shoes
February 5th, 2011
Ephesians 4:17—5:2
Walking in a new pair of shoes can give a person blisters! It can take awhile to break them in. If we are not patient and persistent, we may find ourselves longing for the comfort of our old shoes. The discomfort from the new shoes can make us wish we had never thrown out the old.
Walking in true righteousness and holiness may also seem unnatural at first. In Scripture, we have more than a new pair of shoes. We have a new way of living, a new way of thinking, speaking, and working. Our old self has been taken off, and a new life that we are not yet accustomed to is being put on. The new is better, but a whole change of life will need some time before it feels comfortable. Maybe this new life should be more natural for us since we were created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. The potential is there for comfort if we keep on walking in the right direction.
