Against All Hope
February 3rd, 2011
Romans 4:13-25
My favorite movies are those that show the underdog winning in the end. The football team that no one believed could win the game; the sister who believed her true love had married someone else. I cheer with the crowd hoping against all hope for the winning touchdown or that last pronouncement of love.
I’ve heard many say God is the greatest story teller of all. Sarah was barren and hoped for a son. Moses who took God’s people out of slavery faced the Red Sea. And Jesus who came as King of Kings was nailed to a cross. In these stories, these real people suffered barrenness, dead ends, and crosses. Yet, they overcame each of these against all hope! The Bible is full of reminders for each of us. No matter how dismal or desperate our situation may appear, there is always hope when we believe God has the power to do what he has promised.
