For Whom Would You Die?
January 11th, 2011
2 Corinthians 5:1-15
Would you ever give your life to save another? Maybe this is a guy thing from watching plenty of war movies on television. I imagine that we might give our lives to protect family and children, even to save friends, but would we die for people who did not deserve it?
Would we forfeit our futures to save a dictator, or serial killer? Would we willingly miss out on watching our children and grandchildren grow, or share with our spouses the joys and sorrows of growing old together, for someone who merits well-deserved condemnation?
Would we die for strangers? Would we die for an enemy? Probably not.
Yet, that is exactly what Jesus did. You and I may not be the worst of society, but according to the Scriptures, “we were yet sinners” (Rom. 5:8). We were unable to bring anything of value to the relationship. Christ died for us. Our challenge is to live for him.
