Mysterious Faithfulness

Psalm 105:12-23

Who can discern the ways of God? Who can tell what God is up to in this world? What does God do? What does God cause? What does God simply allow to happen? Yes, God is there to pick up the broken pieces of our lives and to reshape us into a beautiful mosaic of His love and faithfulness. But does God ever throw us against the rocks himself? God can raise up a Joseph or a Moses to save His people. But does God ever lead us into the land of slavery or guide us straight into the pit?

God is there to help when we are mistreated. But is God somehow behind the scenes of our darkest times working in ways that we can’t even imagine? Or perhaps God is working in ways we are afraid to imagine?
What is going on with God’s great mixture of blessing and testing, fulfillment and deferment? The hard truth is that we really don’t know. When problems overwhelm us, sometimes we must simply cry out with a long train of God’s people: “Where is there anyone as mighty as you, O LORD? You are entirely faithful”
