The sovereign Lord took Abram for a walk in the cold, clear desert night. “Look up at the heavens and count the stars–if indeed you can count them.” This was the same God who created the heavens and the earth. “He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name”.
Scientific theories abound about the origin, age, size, and destiny of the universe. Science speculates on the “what,” “when,” “where,” and “how” of creation, but it cannot answer “who” and “why.” No investigation of physical laws and properties can answer those two fundamental questions. To answer “who” and “why” requires revelation. Genesis 1:1 reveals who–God. “Why” is bound up in the nature of God; His purposes for humankind; their eventual separation from Him by sin; and His plan of salvation fulfilled in His Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. “Why” is what the rest of the Bible is all about.
