My Command: Greater Love
August 22nd, 2010
On the 50th anniversary of D-Day, they had the joy of serving food and passing out hundreds of printed cards to the many who came in remembrance to Normandy, France. Printed on the cards were the words of John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends”.
Nearby the beach referred to as “Bloody Omaha” are military cemeteries, where the bodies of over 9,000 U.S. and 5,000 Canadian soldiers rest.
It was a very emotional time as they quietly moved among the thousands of marble crosses and pondered, “If only the love of Christ had prevailed, this all would not have happened.”
The love of Jesus cries out to a world weary of war, fighting, and sin when it says, “My command is this: “Love each other as I have loved you”. Jesus did not leave suggestions, for this was a command “to love each other.”
