Holiness Defined
July 15th, 2010
For centuries, holiness was defined by rules, laws, and decrees. What a defining moment when Christ boiled down centuries of restrictions into one sentence of hope!
No text captures, articulates, and defines Christian holiness better than Mark 12:30-31, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength . . . [and] your neighbor as yourself.” Jesus introduced His disciples to the authentic holy life and the pathway of perfect love.
Christ’s words breathe life into terms like “complete consecration,” and “total surrender.” The Holy Spirit enables and empowers us to love the Lord with all of our hearts, all of our souls, all of our minds, and all of our strength. And yes, even love our neighbors as ourselves. Isn’t that the true definition of holiness?
