A Gift of Grace

March 5th, 2023

Ephesians 2:1-10

Grace is like the free bread that is placed on your table as soon as you are seated, at certain restaurants. The bread is warm and delicious, and the perfect start to your meal. You don’t pay for it—but it is a free, tasty gift that you get no matter what.

This is God’s grace. We can’t choose it or earn it. It is a free gift to us: a good, good gift. In his letter to the church in Ephesus, Paul describes this grace as the thing Christ uses to save us. It is only by Christ’s love that we are made alive and new in Christ Jesus—by grace, through faith. It has nothing to do with our own power, work, or good deeds. There is nothing we can do to get more grace, and nothing we can do that would cause God to take grace away. Grace is a gift offered to us by our loving God.

Rest in this truth today. In your rest, allow the God of grace to stir something new in you. Then you too may offer the grace that brings life to the world around you.
