Set Your Mind on Christ

December 19th, 2022

Colossians 3:1-11

Christmas season is always a bustle of activity—parties, shopping, decorating, gatherings of family and friends. Even as we’ve found other ways to accomplish all of this since the worldwide pandemic changed our lives (online shopping, Zoom gatherings), we have all still kept busy with our holiday plans.

The celebration of Christ’s birth is an important holiday in our Christian year. It is an ongoing reminder that Jesus came to earth to bring salvation to all people. Yet this focus is sometimes hard to remember in all the bustle of holiday planning. We can get caught up with the worldly aspects of the holiday if we don’t intentionally set our focus on “the reason for the season.”

In Colossians 3, Paul urges us to “set [our] hearts on things above, where Christ is” (v. 1). We “have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator” (v. 10). During this often stressful season, Jesus brings purpose and peace into our preparations.
