Hebrews 13:1-8

I had the experience of working in refugee camps a few years ago. We would usually go in the afternoons around lunch time, and so often I would find myself in an unknown tent, surrounded by children I had only met that morning, eating a spread of food seemingly pulled out of thin air. I was a stranger, and yet I was invited to the dinner table almost every day to share in breaking bread together. It was a lesson in hospitality that I will never forget.

Caring for each other is one of the most important things we can do. It is a way of showing respect to the image of God in people, and to bring glory to God as well. Good hospitality—showing up when we are needed and offering help—is required of us as followers of Christ.

Here in Hebrews, the author urges us to “[k]eep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” (vv. 1-2). How have you shown hospitality this week?
