Colossians 3:9-17

Colossians 3 reveals that things have changed from before the time of Christ to the time after Christ. Christ came to this earth, lived, died, and rose again. In doing so, He defined new terms in this world. He ushered in the kingdom of God and this is good news!

At the ushering in of the kingdom of God, the categories and criteria that the broken and fallen world created no longer have dominion over the people of Christ. People that follow Jesus will not be known by these old categories that the world dictates. People of God will be known by: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and forgiveness of one another.

As followers of Christ we are to strive after these new characteristics that are all bound together by love. Jesus similarly told the disciples, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:35). In doing so we allow the “message of Christ” to “dwell” among us.
