2 Thessalonians 3:1-9

There is a saying that goes, “change nothing and nothing changes.” It is impossible to follow Christ and not experience any change in one’s life. When someone responds to the grace offered in a relationship with Jesus, that person’s life is forever changed!

In 2 Thessalonians 3, Paul is calling out some of their bad habits. Sometimes, in western culture particularly, there is pride in being busy. People are often praised for being busy.

The people in Thessalonica were not just being idle but were going one step farther. They were hurting the community by being busybodies. They were meddling and hurting the witness of the community even though they were called to do good. If they did not change the way they were living, then their ability to spread the good news would not change.

The message— the good news of Jesus—has not changed, but our methods need to. Why? Because we are called to do good and be a light in this world. Let us not get so busy doing that we fail to be and share the good news of Jesus.
