Psalm 106:1-8

There is a geyser in Yellowstone National Park called “Old Faithful.” Why the name? It was named in 1870 because of its predictability. Since 2000, this geyser has consistently erupted every 44 to 125 minutes. Those who visit the park can count on seeing this geyser faithfully erupt within a certain amount of time.

Psalm 106 is a testimony to God’s faithfulness. Despite the people’s rebellion, God remained faithful. What He promised—delivery out of bondage and land they would settle in—He fulfilled. During the exodus out of Egypt toward the promised land, the people rebelled and were unfaithful. But God did not waver. He remained faithful to His Word.

God is not a “fair weather friend” whom we cannot rely on. He remains faithful, despite what we have, or have not, done. This does not mean that our actions do not matter to God. They do. But God’s faithfulness is not dependent on who we are, but rather on who He is.
