Patterns of Light

Isaiah 60:8-15

There is a simple craft that allows one to create a lantern. To create it, collect the simple list of needs: a permanent marker, a nail, a hammer, and a tin can. Draw a simple design (maybe a star or a heart) on the outside of the can using a series of dots. Then very carefully you can place the nail on a dot and tap gently with a hammer until the nail pokes through the tin. After a little bit of work, the pattern emerges when all the “dots” have now become holes. To finish the craft, place a candle in the center of the can and light it. All of the holes become brilliant with the candlelight, allowing the pattern to be illuminated.

God pours out His blessings on our lives in much the same way.  God infuses us with God’s great love, mercy, compassion, and grace which “endows us with splendor” (v. 9). The light that resides inside us allows us to shine on the outside. When God’s light is shining through us, it makes all the difference. God’s light brings the pattern to life. One can see the true beauty of the creation that God has made.
