Genesis 2:7, 15-23

In retirement, Bob decided to research his ancestry. He soon came upon a distant relative who claimed to have traced the family genealogy back to Adam. Intrigued, Bob added this lineage to his family tree.

The story of Adam and Eve has always captured the imaginations of both believers and non-believers, and in the sense Adam and Eve were the first humans, we are all descended from them and related to each other.

We don’t look alike. We belong to different ethnic groups and nationalities. Unfortunately, rather than respecting these differences, dominant groups use them to label and control people. Such distortion is a result of the fall of humanity.

What we do know is that Adam and Eve were made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26-27), and everyone carries something of that image. Even though people exhibit a wide diversity of physical characteristics and live in different cultures, there is really only one race—the human race. We should treat everyone with the respect we would give to brothers and sisters (Matthew 25:40).
