John 14:1-14

Martha, Mary, and Lazarus were siblings and had a unique close relationship with Jesus. The shortest verse in the Bible, “Jesus wept” (John 11:35) is in reference to when Jesus was comforting Martha and Mary after Lazarus’ death before Jesus raised him from the dead. Martha had the gift of hospitality and hosted a dinner in honor of Jesus.

Mary honored Jesus in another way, acting only out of love; she used an expensive perfume on His feet. This act of kindness was a token of her love for Jesus who had raised her brother from the dead.

Mary’s motives were pure, she was doing something out of her good heart to honor and respect Jesus, but then Judas tried to condemn and demean her. Jesus immediately silenced Judas and defended Mary! When you are honoring God, it doesn’t matter what others say about you. How awesome is it to know when we are acting in Christ’s name, we will always have an advocate in Jesus!
