Deuteronomy 5:6-21

It is evident from the fifth commandment that family relationships are very important to God. We are told to honor our fathers and mothers. However, there is more to this Scripture than meets the eye. After all, where does a child learn to honor his or her parents? In the end, it is through the example set by the parents that the child is shaped. The way parents treat each other matters, but so does the way that they treat their children. The way in which we speak and treat one another makes a lasting impact.

This honor does not just stop with those physical family relationships. While many of us have not had good experiences with family relationships, that doesn’t mean all is lost. Remember, we have a heavenly Father who is all that a good father is supposed to be. We should live our lives with respect and honor to God.

How do we live our lives? The way in which we treat one another really does matter. It influences, not only ourselves but, every person around us, including children.
