1 Corinthians 6:12-20

Paul was writing to a group of church people who were dealing with many of the vile things of the world around them. They were struggling with being in the world, but not of it. They had a lot of questions about what was acceptable to God as opposed to what was acceptable to the culture around them. As Paul addresses this, he presented a concept that would have seemed crazy to the church in Corinth. Our bodies—not just our hearts and minds—are a temple of God. This shell we live in is a temple for God.

How would we live differently if we truly believed that this body we are in right now was sacred? Throughout Scripture we see that God’s temple is a holy and sacred place. It is a place of dwelling; it is a place of relationship. If we saw our bodies as a place where the Lord dwells would we make different choices, go different places, view things with our eyes differently, listen to different things than we listen to normally? Ask God for grace to live as God’s temple this week.
