Luke 9:51-62

Someone has said, “Commitment means staying loyal to what you said you were going to do long after the mood you said it in has left you.”

There are some days that Mary doesn’t “feel” like being married. Her relationship with her husband certainly isn’t the dreamy, starry-eyed romance that it was on their wedding day thirty-eight years ago. But on that day, they made a commitment to each other. When they said “I do” to each other; they said “I don’t” to every other man and woman in their lives. Their wedding vows were a commitment to a new beginning point, sharing good and bad, no matter how unromantic those times may feel.

When Jesus asked His disciples for total commitment, He meant much the same level of devotion. They were to leave their old lives behind and make a new beginning—to walk with Him—no matter the circumstances or mood. He was asking them to give everything.

What is your commitment level today? Are you holding back or are you all in?
