Exodus 1:11-22

In many countries it is illegal to follow Christ and Christians are persecuted. Yet, God continues to use these faithful followers to grow his church. Those of us who do not face this kind of persecution fight against unchristlike cultural norms and expectations. Often, we are tempted to climb our way to the top without care for who we hurt. Yet, Christ calls us to treat the other as we would have ourselves treated.

Shiphrah and Puah put their lives at risk by being faithful to God. Not only did God use them to continue his promise to Abraham to make his descendants as numerous as the stars, he included Shiphrah and Puah in this blessing by giving them families of their own. God did not forget his people.

When following Christ is hard and we are tempted to make easy choices, we look to Shiphrah and Puah remembering how God used their faithfulness to continue his work in the world. We trust that as we remain faithful despite our oppression that God will use us to further his kingdom in this world.
