2 Timothy 3:10—4:5

At my grandmother’s funeral, my cousin gave the family a charge—a mission so to speak: carry on the tradition of the family. You see both of my grandparents were gone and now their legacy rested on their children. What would they do with their new position as leaders of the family?

In 2 Timothy 3, we see Paul passing on the mantle of ministry to Timothy. Paul’s knowledge are honed into these words, directing and encouraging Timothy. All manner of things Paul endured throughout ministry—and God helped him overcome.

How, then does God work through someone to help them overcome the difficulties of following Christ? Paul points Timothy to two things: what he had learned from fellow Christians—the Body of Christ—(v. 14) and the Word of God which reveals the Triune God (v. 15). God did not intend for us to follow him by ourselves or without guidance that points to Christ. How are you embracing the Church and the revelation of Christ?
